Official Opening and Blessing of our school on 18th December 2015
On Friday 18th December we were delighted to welcome Bishop Denis Brennan, Minister Brendan Howlin, Minister Paul Kehoe, Mayor Ger Carthy, Cllr. Tony Dempsey Chairman of Wexford Co. Council , Mr. Tom Enright CEO Wexford County Council and other invited guests to the official opening of our school.
The school looked really impressive with Christmas decorations and art work throughout. Outside our Green Flag and the Glynn-Barntown club flag flew proudly with the tricolour Guests were greeted on arrival by members of the Students’ Council who looked really smart in their uniforms.
Cutting the Ribbon
There was a great buzz of excitement in the hall which was packed to capacity. The opening ceremony was simple yet very moving. There were speeches from the principal, Minister Howlin who performed the official opening and Fr. Carroll, Chairman of the Board of Management. Bishop Brennan blessed the school using a prayer that he had written specially for the occasion. There were prayers from pupils and members of the school community. The school choir under the direction of Ms. Ann Stamp enhanced the whole ceremony with their beautiful singing. The Junior Infants played their part by leading the entire school in the singing of our school anthem ‘Respect.
Then it was time to go outside to cut the ribbon and unveil the plaque to mark the occasion. It was wonderful to see so many people from the parish there for the event. This was followed by a reception for all in the school hall. Niamh Doyle, Carmel Moran and their team of volunteers from the Parents’ Association did an incredible job providing refreshment for all.
